Clan Football: Frasers v. MacEwens, Moniack Castle 2009

Match Report by John McEwen, Goalkeeper

The Frasers v The McEwens 22nd August 2009 by Moniack Castle
5-4 (2-1)

The sun shone brightly. The Frasers were younger, fitter and more numerous but the McEwen determination never wavered. Fifteen minutes in and the scores remained level. There was many a goal-line stramash. Eventually the Fraser skipper broke the deadlock. The McEwen keeper was at fault for the Fraser second but then Archie McEwen, setting out on a mazy run virtually from half-way, completely outfoxed the foxy Frasers, made his way towards goal and scored! Half time.

There were many substitutions, several Frasers becoming McEwens for the time being. Cameron Cochrane for the McEwens tormented the Frasers throughout with his Jinky-style dribbling. More goals followed but the Frasers never looked like running away with it. Archie McEwen grabbed a second but then two own-goals by over-eager McEwens made the score 4-4 with the clock ticking. A famous draw looked on the cards but then the result was sealed with a fantastic lob by a very small Fraser. Five goals to four, honours even.

The younger members of both teams then played an exhibition match which ended 2-0 to the McEwens thanks to two fantastic goals by Millie McColm, set up by Aidan McColm and assisted by Susanna McEwen.

Man of the Match: Cameron Cochrane.
